Donation Guidelines

WNC graciously accepts all your donations.  All your donations are tax-deductible so don’t forget to pick up a tax donation receipt!   To help WNC save on time and space, please consider the following when making In-Kind donations.

Larger Items- WNC’s store size doesn’t allow us to take in large items such as furniture and appliances.  Instead, for donations of this type, please call us at (608) 849-5740 or email us at info@waunakeenc.com and let us know what you wish to donate.  We will then work with you and our clients to coordinate pick-up/delivery direct to our clients homes.  We often have requests for beds and couches, but because many of our clients are in the financial struggle they are due to health issues, we need your help to ensure that we aren’t giving them smokey or moldy items that could further threaten their health.  Think working, clean, and comfortable.

Condition of Items - WNC volunteers spend a considerable amount of time sorting all items that are donated.  To save us time, please ensure that your items are clean, smoke-free,  and do not have stains, rips or are heavily worn.  For non-clothing items, please ensure that items are in workable condition.  A rule of thumb is if you wouldn’t pay money for the item at a garage sale, it probably won’t be put out at our store.

Dropping off Donations - Please drop-off donations (other than larger items listed above) at the WNC store during store hours.  For drop-off hours see our calendar here or in our monthly donor newsletter.  We have times at night and weekends too.  Please do not drop-off donations during client shopping hours, and do not leave your donations outside of the store when the store is closed.   If you need to drop-off your items at a time when we are not open, you can now drop-off your donations at the Waunakee Police Station located at 205 N. Klein Drive in Waunakee (just north of the Post Office).  The Police Station is open from Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Wrap and Mark Your Bedding - To save us time, please consider washing, wrapping (with tape or place in a clear bag), and marking the size and type of bedding donations (example: Twin set with curtains).

Items We Do Not Keep- Items that we do not keep, are passed along to St. Vincent de Paul in Waunakee.  When in doubt, feel free to bring it along, and we’ll do the sorting.  Otherwise, here is a list of items we do not keep.

  • TVs, electronics, and computers older than 3 years
  • Car seats older than 3 years
  • Clothing with events, logos (other than Wisc. or Waunakee), or inappropriate sayings
  • Broken, excessively soiled, worn items or stained items
  • Stuffed animals (we take new with tags only due to health concerns)
